At Sofix: “Safety is the foundation for building a quality product”!

Sofix was started in Chattanooga, TN, in 1990 as a joint venture between NAGASE & CO. LTD. (Tokyo), and Yamada Chemical Company (Kyoto) to manufacture color formers for carbonless and thermal paper. Thermal paper is ubiquitous in our society today, used for receipts, labels, bar codes, transportation tickets and many other applications. Sofix is located on 23 acres in an industrial park, close to downtown Chattanooga.

The plant was started up in the spring of 1992, and in 1999 achieved registration to ISO 9001 (quality). In 2005, Sofix became registered to ISO 14001 (environment) and that same year became the first US Customs Foreign Trade Zone in the Chattanooga area. In 2011, Sofix became registered to OHSAS 18001 (safety), as part of our overall commitment to the health and safety of our employees and overall focus on continual improvement.

In 2011, as part of a corporate reorganization, NAGASE became the 100% owner of Sofix, in conjunction with Fukui Yamada Chemical Co. Ltd., located on the west coast of Japan. In 2016, as part of an ongoing shift to manufacturing by NAGASE, Sofix made a commitment to enter the contract/toll manufacturing business to more fully utilize its capabilities and strategic location in the US.
